Someone might say, “I think; they don’t. I’m better than they are.”
But is a person’s worth measured by how much they think? Why do we think in the first place? What’s the purpose of thinking?
The truth is that thinking helps you reach what you want in the way that suits you best. Someone who doesn’t think as much may still reach the same outcome—but through the path that God has written for them.
For example, I became more comfortable at work after arranging to have Tuesday off. But what about someone who can’t have Tuesdays off, or whose job simply doesn’t allow it?
I’d say this: if life has brought them to this realization, then they’re already qualified to enjoy that blessing. So what will compensate them for not having Tuesday off?
Perhaps God blesses them with a kind manager who makes work easier, a loving spouse, or children who make them proud.
“So do not claim yourselves to be pure. He knows best who is truly mindful of Him.” (Qur’an 53:32)
This verse reminds us not to praise ourselves just because we managed to think our way into having Tuesday off.
So what matters instead?
God says: “He knows best who is truly mindful of Him.”
Why mention mindfulness of God (taqwa) specifically?
Because “Whoever is mindful of God, He will make a way out for them.” If a person has taqwa, then God may compensate them in His own way.
In that sense, thinking allows you to choose the model and tailor life according to your own preferences.
Taqwa, on the other hand, clothes you in something that’s already prepared for you—still suitable, still fitting, and still made to your measure.
